Song Sale for Christchurch!

On February 22nd, 2011, the city of Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand was hit with a devastating earthquake, only five months after an equally destructive one on September 4th, 2010. All over New Zealand and the world, people are looking for ways to help. Red Cross and Civil Defense have advised that the best thing we can all do is donate money to the relief efforts.

Songwriters are a notoriously creative lot and here in Wellington, a bunch of us are putting our creativity to good use. On March 10th and 11th, we’re holding Song Sales to raise funds for Christchurch.

Wait, you’re doing what?

Basically, we’re commissioning ourselves out for the night. For $5, you can request a song about anything you like and our team of singer/songwriters will write and perform it for you that very evening. We’ll be recording the entire night and will release an album of original songs soon after the gig. All funds from the night and CD sales will go straight to the Christchurch Earthquake appeal.

In Wellington? Come along and support us! Elsewhere? Want to organize a similar event, wherever you are in the world? Get in touch with us at songsale4chch@gmail.com for more information on running a song sale and how to get the funds to Christchurch. We’d love to get groups of songwriters all over the world on board – it’s a great songwriting exercise, as well as being for an incredibly good cause.

Over the next few months, the situation in Christchurch will no doubt slip under the radar of the media. The need for funds, however, isn’t going anywhere. Every little bit helps, so spread the word to songwriters you know, wherever they may be. We’ll put up details for every event organized, wherever it is in the world.
